In order to qualify as a
Volunteer Emergency Radio Operator for the City of Toronto Emergency Operations
Centre the following requirements must be met;
- Canadian Citizenship or Landed
Immigrant Status
- be prepared to provide a police
criminal record and background check applicable to current and previous
places of residence.
- letters of reference (or references)
- person who has known you for over 5 years such as an employer, clergy,
teacher, doctor, police officer, government employee, etc.
- provide written confirmation that
your employer is aware of your obligations as an Em-Comm volunteer.
- ability to work with senior management
in a high pressure environment
- hold a valid Canadian Amateur Radio
Certificate of Proficiency (Basic +) issued by Industry Canada or be prepared
to obtain the Basic + qualification.
- Attend Emergency Radio Operator
certification training sessions conducted by the City of Toronto Emergency
Operations Centre EmComm Group (free of charge)
- Participate on a regular basis
in training exercises and scheduled EOC activation's
- Willing to be placed on a phone
call-up tree and attend for an actual emergency activation
Note: Applicants that meet
all criteria that do not hold a certificate of Proficiency in Amateur Radio
(Basic +) may apply to attend a free Amateur Radio certification course
sponsored by the Toronto EmComm Group, two Amateur Radio courses are conducted
annually, spring and fall.
